These are some of the best and must-have foods from my trip to China last year that I just got around to publishing now.

Some no name street food

This savory and complex congee had pork, century egg, and pieces of fried bread. Always a warm and hearty bowl. 7/10

While eating chicken feet might sound intimidating, these gelatinous and flavorful bites are amazing. The ribs and yam cubes were great with the sauce as well. 8/10

Wang Jia Sha

The combination of the cold noodles, tangy and complex peanut sauce, and hot and spicy pork and tofu was amazing. This amazingly complex dish is a must have Shanghai classic. 10/10

A classic refreshing cold dish in Shanghai, the tofu is so juicy and has a wonderful sweet flavor. 8/10

Nanjing Da Pai Dang

This was deliciously stewed with amazing sweet and savory flavors and such a tender, fatty, and soft texture. The fatty texture with the soft stewed tendons and skin was incredible. 9/10

The duck had the perfect soft texture with a firm and chewy skin. The flavor was a clean salt brined umami. 8/10

Some place under Jing An Square in Shanghai

A delicious platter of sweet and fatty char siu, salt-brined chicken, flavorful roasted duck, and sweet Shanghai sausage. Great sample of the classics. 9/10

The thin, crispy layer of batter on the bottom and the flavorful pork filling make these a must-have in Shanghai. 10/10

Hou Zheng Japanese Barbecue

The beef was really tender, and the butter was so flavorful and amazing with the beef. The service was also amazing and made this restaurant really stand out. 10/10

The dressing of this salad was spectacular, with a sweet and fruity flavor that was so refreshing to complement the barbecue. The fruits and vegetables were fresh, and all the components combined for a perfect salad. 8/10

Lao Touer You Bao Xia

The crispy skin and fried dough makes this such an addictive snack, especially when dipped in the spicy savory sauce that came with it. The green onion and egg provided even more layers of flavor. 10/10

Tender pieces of eggplant are coated with a flavorful garlic and soy sauce. This is so incredible with rice. 8/10

Small pieces of pork ribs are covered with the amazing sweet and tangy sauce, and the finger lime adds another refreshing flavor. This was absolutely amazing and addictive. 10/10

Dong Tai Xiang

The buns had a delicious crust complemented by the soft, pillowy bun. The filling was so juicy and deeply savory and umami. Absolutely a must when in Shanghai. 10/10

These noodles had an amazing texture, with the perfect chewy noodles, dried scallions, and crispy dried shrimp. The sweet and savory flavors were incredible with the aromatic and umami of the condiments. 10/10

Shan Qui Jia

The fatty foie gras absolutely dominated the flavor and texture, and it was amazing. The sweet glaze elevated the rich foie gras, and everything combined for the perfect bite. 10/10

I kinda forgot to take a picture of the hot pot but it was great. The spicy and flavorful stew had such an intense flavor to pass on the meat and vegetables. Add it to some rice and it becomes the best meal ever. 10/10

The eel was extremely fatty and truly melted in my mouth. The glaze was so deliciously sweet and savory, which worked great with the natural umami of the eel. 10/10

ZhuHai Street Food

Fried quail is another street food staple, with a crispy skin, insanely juicy interior, and flavorful marinade. This was perfect on all levels, and the mastery of technique in this dish was impressive. 10/10

This was a quintessential bowl of Chinese street food with white rice, stir fried cabbage, sweet char siu, and fried egg. The flavors were great and this was just an absolute classic. 8/10
